Holden Art Walk
November 22: We participated in Holden's Art Ride event. Our members took over the Gale Free Public Library for the day and put on a variety of exhibits. People who did the Art Ride could opt to come into the Library during their visits with other Holden artists.

Our club President, Michelle Fontaine, recently sent around a note about a TV show on photography airing on the Ovation Channel. Some of us wondered what this might be and, as it turns out, Ovation Channel is one of the TV viewing choices that are offered on some satellite networks but not the Charter or Comcast networks that service much of our area. A little investigation about the program turned up that fact that it's a rebroadcast of the BBC show, Genius Of Photography. So, it's good news for satellite dish viewers but not cable viewers. Also, unfortunately, it isn't being shown on the Ovation TV website, itself, although they mention the program there.
Well, it turns out that You Tube does have this BBC gem in 10 minute segments. Click here to see the first one; you'll need to work through the Youtube system to find the other pieces. It shouldn't be too hard.
Coming Up Next Time
We meet September through May on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. We meet at 6 Institute Road (Merriman Hall, United Congregational Church) and meeting start at 7:00 PM. Click our Calendar link or About Us in the menu for more information.
December
Competition
We'll be holding another one of our competitions. The usual format will include slides, digital images, large prints and small-format prints (formerly known as snapshots). You can read obout our competition rules in About Us. Please make sure you bring your images in early as this gives us more time for the judges to do their commentary. And, especially for the digital image folks, get your images in to Casey Danek a few days ahead of time. One of the tricky things for Casey to do is load up his laptop with images if they're all coming in at the last second.

We practiced for Saturday's Art Ride in Holden. This is the event where folks go from one artist studio to another visiting with and seening the works of various artists. Our contribution to the effort is a series of sessions being held at the Holden Public Library. Our members, each donating an hour of time, will set up in the 2nd floor conference room and talk about various things related to photography. Don Roberts will cover Lightroom, Lou Swinand will handle flash techniques, and so on. We had all of the setups around the periphery of our meeting hall and members milled about asking questions. Here are some of the topics we'd planned for this: Fstop demo, Flash 101, Wacom tablet, Adobe Lightroom, NIK Color filters, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom alternatives, Pro Show Gold and Producer, Mounting Prints, Photoshop Basics, What's in you camera bag?, 100 years of cameras.
And On Our Technical Side...
Our Digital Meetings
If you go to the Worcester Public Library website and click on Meeting Rooms, you'll see what night we have reserved. This is usually updated correctly by the Library staff, but not always.
The next Digital meeting will be held December 8th from 7 - 9 pm in the Banx room of the Worcester library.
The last meeting was held in the Library’s Ellipse Room on their 3rd floor and worked out quite well. The attendance was good and we covered a number of interesting topics.
I had tested out a number of different art papers using mostly the same black and white image. The results were displayed on one of the tables. The results were quite interesting as the different papers each gave a different mood to the image. I was quite pleased with the test and ordered a package of one paper to put out a series of sepia images I have been working on. Anyone interested in seeing the results let me know and I can bring them in again.
Dick Wilson gave a couple presentations using Adobe’s Premier Elements. The shows were very good and showed how one can make a movie presentation using Premier. Anytime Dick is on the agenda you should try to see his show.
Bob Israelian gave a detailed overview of the latest version Adobe Photoshop Elements. Elements has a great array of features the should make most photographers happy at a much lower cost than Adobe Photoshop CS3 or CS4. It also seems much easier to use.
I am looking for ideas for the next meeting. Anyone interested let me know or just show up and most likely you can show your show..
